  • Brichardi/ Daffodil breeding

The following links show the tank in which I have multiple regular brichardi and multiple daffodils.  IT is a completely holey rock filled tank with little tents  made from tile to form caves in various places on the bottom of the tank.  There is also a strange looking catfish as well as two Archocentrus panamensis (I believe they are a pair).  Strangely enough there is no breeding going on.  Any suggestions?  Do I need to thin the herd?  Or... Do I just remain satisfied with a beautiful tank?

Sorry... I have difficulty doing quotes AND pictures... so the links are here.

DB -- mine breed when they dug out the sand underneath the holey rock in my tank..  I cannot get them to stop now..  They seem to like the ultra tight quarters to breed in.  Another thing is that I didnt know they had breed until there was suddenly decent sized fry where free swimming around.

My suggestion would depend on what your goal with the tank is. If you want to watch some fish, then you are done. If the goal is breeding, you may want to consider a species tank, where you can watch for two to pair up and then remove the others. BTW, your catfish looks like a Synodontis nigriventris, or more commonly called "Upside Down Catfish". My synodontis love eating eggs... and brichardi and daffodils are egglayers...

I guess I need to attempt to capture the catfish.  He's quite comical....
It's not that I want or don't want them to breed... it's just that I love it when nature takes it's course.
        Thanks for the info.

I noticed my first brood after a large water change and raising the temp from 77 to 80 in my tank.

If you want nature to take its course... then enjoy the mix that you currently have!

              Re: Brichardi/ Daffodil breeding

I really do... I have some HUGE daffodils courtesy of fshfrk.  The brichardi's are from cichildfan and loretta's stock.  I have had them since they were mere specks in a bag of water.  The daffodils are HUGE.  They all love swimming in and out of the rocks.  I just wanted to make sure I wasn't preventing them from following nature.  I think the catfish would look great in one of my other tanks anyway.  The panamensis are from Dave in San Antonio or Austin.  I bought them at the Nov. HAS auction and they have really grown and seem to get along with the brichardi/daf mix.  Anyway...Thanks so much for the input.
