We all fuss about all the cool fish... discus, trophs etc. etc., but rarely do I see any thread on tetras. A lot of times, we don't give them nearly as much care or attention as the other fish, as a result they don't achieve the color or vigor as they can with proper care. Most of the time, they are so forgiving that we just forget about them.IMHO, they don't get nearly as much credit as they deserve, so I thought we would start a thread talking about our favorite tetras. Regular Species:

• Congo Tetra (Phenacogrammus interruptus)
• Emperor Tetra (Nematobrycon palmeri)
• Bleeding Heart Tetra (Hyphessobrycon erythrostigma)
• Blue Tetra (Knodus borki)
• Cardinal Tetra (Paracheirodon axelrodi)

Nano Species:

• Ember Tetra (Hyphessobrycon amandae)
• Jelly Bean Tetra (Ladigesia roloffi)

I know how you feel finfan, I'm keeping a few harliquins and tetras, black and red phantoms, etc....

To me, these fish are just as important or loved if you will as my other "fancy" fish.

I like the roseline shark and the cardinal tetra the best, but it's really to close to call with the others...white mountain clouds, or my harliquins, I am equally as bummed when I lose one, even my fancy tail guppies make me smile.

I'm thrilled with the long flowing fins of the Long-Fin Black Skirt, the tripple pointed tail & royal purple of the Emperiors, the irridescence of the Red & Blues, and the colors of the rainbows.

But most of all, I love to watch them flying in formation
while I enjoy the peace & harmony in a well planted tank.

i had some green ember tetras for about an hour....then i lost them to CF's tank....they were bagged with other little guys and he took them all.....

You're so right! I haven't seen too many threads about tetras either.

They happen to be the only thing I keep in my 58 community tank. My very first fish were 7 bleeding heart tetras, still my favorites today. Unfortunately they are no longer with me but I did love them the year they were around. Before the tragedy of a few weeks ago I had 9 different types in my tank.

My favorites include the bleeding hearts, diamonds, Von Rios and the serpaes.

James actually stole the beautiful emperors from me when we won them at the HAS auction as well as some harlequins...but that's alright :) It's not cool to be a tetra hog anyway.

Other tetras in my tank (now or then) include:
1. Pristella
2. Serpae
3. Black phantoms
4. Long Finned Black Skirts
5. Blood Fins

There are many more I'd love to get down the road...I'm a sucker for these guys. More specifically the cardinals, lemon tetras and the green fires.

(Not to mention if something does go horribly wrong you're not out $1000.00. if you lose 10 of them.)

They're poor-college-student budget friendly for the most part. When my community tank recovers from the ich attack I plan to move more toward one specific grouping, probably the bleeding hearts again or maybe some cardinals.
