  • Will it hold?

    Hello,

I am considering using this as a stand for the 55 gallon aquarium I am getting.

The ad says it is solid cherry wood. Measures 66x18x30. Do you think it will hold the wieght if the tank, or is it a bit risky? Will the little legs snap right off or punch right through the wood?

Let me know what you guys think.

    Thanks

Probably, but those legs worry me a little, I'd put something under there to help the legs support the weight...

Truth is the cement that holds the bricks and stones of a sane and civilized society together. Remove the former and the latter will crumble.

It will hold as long as nobody bumps it. If someone bumps into it from the side - and if those legs aren't very sturdy, you'll have water and glass on the floor (possibly). I'd either take the legs off, or add additional support on the bottom. Without being there and see in it for myself, it would be hard to decide. I certainly don't want to be the one to blame if it all come crashing down.

Scientific Experiment: If you sit on it and wiggle around, does it shake? If so, add more support. If not, then you are good to go.
          Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

I may just go ahead and have my dad build the stand out of 2x4s. Just was looking for a cheap and easy alternative so he didnt have to build it.

Oh well off to Home Depot later

well, you gotta look at it like this, 1 gal. of water weighs about 8 lbs. So you're looking at about 440lbs of water alons, plus your substrate/decorations, let's call that about 50lbs, plus your fish which probably wont be that much. hopefully having some actual numbers will help.
