I have an Eheim 2217 and an Eheim Pro 2 and i have no clue how to get them started. They have all the media, all the hoses are attached and in place, everything is plugged in, but i need a play-by-play on how to get it started.

For the 2217 or any other basic canister filter-
Connect and open the flow on the intake double taps
Mouth siphon from the output hose and water should begin siphoning from the intake hose.
Connect the the double taps for the output hose quickly
THe canister should fill up with water from the tank.
Once filled - plug it in
Hint- Prefilling hoses is a good alternative to mouth siphoning - If you fill the intake hose with water, close the Doubletap, and hook everything up, the canister will fill itself once valves are opened.

F-Rex - exactly how described as above. The difference I do is once the water comes into the canister, I wait until the pump is almost full and then I shut off the water flow with the valve on the intake. Then I connect the hose.. this way I am not in a hurry to connect hoses and suddenly sit with a tub of water on the floor having to clean it up. If the spray bar is in water I lift if out of water temporary. Once out of water then I turn on the water again.. I wait a few seconds and turn on the pump. It should clear all the air out and eject water out of the spray bar. Now fit the bar to the exact location you want. Repeat with the second canister. Refill water back to the tank so it looks good.
