  • Need HELP !! Plumbing masters

So.. I am about to finish setting up the 150 so that is can be ready for the shipment from Mike. I have a 150 All Glass RR tank. I just finished plumbing it a few days ago. I put the new Mag 18 in and turn it on. WOW!! it is strong.

My problem is that it is wayyy tooo loud. I have the durso pipes comming down, but that is not the problem. When it goes to the wet dry, the water is comming so fast that it is really loud.

Please chime in to give me some ideas. I know you guys have something up your sleves . I even put filter pad under it , but it is still very loud..

    Please Help..

What size wet/dry are you running ? What kind of wet/dry is it ?
You can slow down the Mag-18 by adding a valve so the return is not so quick.

place a ball valve on the outlet side of the pump. adjust the ball valve until the water is less disrupted

+1 or you can put filter padding / bioballs in your overflow to slow it down a little do you have pads in your wetdry mine got alot quieter when i added pads.

My store bought wet dry won't fit, so I made my own out of rubbermaid container. One side is full of bioballs and padding on top. I don't have a problem with the flow, just the water comming into the sump is so strong, it makes alot of noise. I am trying to get some opionions on how to quite this down.

I have it plumbed with 1 in pvc pipe to the wet dry.

You want the drains to hit filter padding which will quiet it down.

Larger durso pipes will also help.

Adjusting the vent/breather hole on the durso could help.

Ball valve on the return to control flow.

Down grade the pump to suit the drains better.

Are you talking about where the water hits the bioballs ? One way I have seen it done is to add a larger pipe around the output pipe to reduce the noise. But this only works if you have a solid pipe raised above your media plate. You could also go buy a plastic drawer mount the return to it and put a plastic peg board inside it to create a rainfall over your bio balls. A picture would be like a thousand words here :)

Yes, where the water hits the bio balls. I think Ek is right. I will have to get a smaller pump. I will take a pic tomorrow to show it better.

Ok, so I finally got the noise down to an acceptable level. Ended up having to adjust the pvc into the water, which lowered the noise significantly. I also put some blue filter pad below that to lessen it further. Now just have to wait for the water to cure and the fish to come

You need to put your drain pipes down in the water in your bubble chamber.

                        drain

What do you mean the bubble chamber, Do you mean under the water level of the wetdry to minimize the noise.

If so, that that is how I have it now.

If you are running Salt Water then this is a MUST put the drainpipe under water... or you are going to end up with salt creep to NO end.

For fresh water you can let the water hit the drip tray from height. I would just enclose the drip tray and the pipe exit to lower the amount of noise.

FINALLY - ok, I finally got the noise down to an acceptable level. Ended up putting some blue filter pad inside the 1 inch pvc pipes to dispearse the bubbles before it exits. I can finally rest and wait for the fish
