I don't know if this is the right forum for this question but how do you 'sink' a big piece of driftwood? This piece is GORGEOUS but when I dropped it in my dog tub to soak, it floated. I'm crushed!

Most have floating driftwood anchored to a piece of slate. Just drill the slate with a masonry bit, then attach the wood with a deck-screw.Experiencing an aquatic renaissance! -
Old school is to put it in a 55g drum of water and wait a few months.
Can be done a little faster if you cover it with cement blocks to hold it down.
If you don't have slate, you can use a large piece of ceramic tile.
Attach the tile, set it in the empty tank and cover the tile with gravel & rocks. (enough to keep it from floating when you add water.
Or you can drill 1.5" holes in the bottom and fill the holes with all your old dragons & wariors after you melt them down.

It's also going to depend on what kind of driftwood it is. I've got a couple pieces I've had for years that never stay put on their own, and I've got a few pieces that sunk after a couple of weeks.

The best driftwood that i have found is at fish r us off 242. I have several large pieces and they all sunk right away. I also have a large pot that i boil them in for about 20 min. Part of the wood sticks out of the pot so i rotate it after a while so most of it all gets boiled and also pour boiling water over the parts that I cant get in the pot. Well, I've been soaking my driftwood since I received it. Needless to say, it's still 'floating' and I guess my only recourse is to mount it on a piece of slate and let the sand in the tank hold it down, right? Here's my question.......
Someone said I would have to 'bolt' the slate to the driftwood. In lieu of that, could I not glue it instead with silicone (for aquariums, of course)?
