  • Who can survive the longest cockroaches or MTS?

I was told since I was little that when humanity succumbs cockroaches will rule the earth,
Well check this out; I have stored a bucket with gravel for couple years in the garage exposed to heat cold etc, etc.
This is how the story begins.
My neighbor comes to my house one day and tells me how cool my fish tanks are I say thank you and then he let me have it! You know I have this 10 gallon tank and I would love to have fish again; do you have any extra equipment you can sell me? I was getting happy because I have accumulated junk over the years and with this economy that will make great coffee money! Just when I am about to open my mouth my wife pop out of the blue and says out loud; sell you? None sense we can give it to you!
Making the story short he got the works a small Eheim filter, permanent background a nice compact fluorescent light fixture, driftwood and used substrate from the old bucket.
So there I am in my garage “teaching” him the basics for his new tank the gravel was BONE DRY so I give it a quick rinse and many empty MTS shells float because they are “dead” right?
We bring the tank to his place and fill it with water I added some bacteria and told him to wait before adding any fish.
Yesterday he calls me and tells me his tank is full of snails! I ask him if he added anything and his replay was no.
I didn’t add any plants the driftwood was as dry as the substrate and there is no way they could have propagate that fast.
    Moral of a fable
Don’t only dry the substrate, boil it! Or else they will come back I will freeze a few for the ultimate test if they survive… oh boy!
    Cheers,
    Navarro

LOL! Great story Luis! Too bad your wife spoiled the deal on making some cash! Way to pay it forward! Any chance you're willing to "pay if forward" again and give me the 75?

I have never had them come back if I microwaved gravel, decor, filter media,

or.... dosed HAd-A-Snail continously for about 3-4 days, and then treated with coppersafe for a month.

funny, it is beyond me how they are able to survive all that
                  65 gallon - ADA 120p - planted
55 gallon - AGA standard - mix cichlid
                  30 gallon tall - eclipse acrylic - semi-planted
