the only ray that is legal to purchase in lfs in texas is the florida ray, they are smallergrowing, ~1.5-2ft.
and need atleast a 180g6x2x2 tank, they do not do well with aggressive cichlids like the ones you keep.
they are very susseptible to being picked on, plecos will such on them and kill them. other boistrous fish like gts, jd's mayans and texas will harrass and kill them.
they need fine smooth sand substarte as they burry themselves in it.
also, very sprly decorated tanks are appriciated, only a few large driftwood pieces for them to burrow under.
also, extremly heavy filtration is needed to keep them happy and healthy.
a florida ray will be ~6-8" in diameter at the tiome of purchase, they arent real big.
they will typiaclly run you ~$110-130 for a single ray.
they do well with fish such as silver arowana, peacock bass, and similar non aggressive large mid to top dwelling predatory fishes.
i hope this helps.FRENCH FRY!!!

there is also a dwarf freshwater ray called the teacup ray that only gets to be ~10-12" in dianter when full grown.
they are ~$250, and only need like a 75g.
i dont know if they are legal or not in texas though.FRENCH FRY!!!
