  • Can I borrow an oxygen tank?

I am moving my 90 gallon tank to a new house. I could just buy a small oxygen tank, how much would that cost me? But then I would just have an 02 tank sitting around. If anyone near Sugar Land could lend me one for a few days for a small fee or trade (I got some okay plants), that would be nice.

I don't want to drive across Houston, AOC is right here in Rosenberg and I guess having a small oxygen tank sitting around wouldn't be so bad.

I am moving 20 minutes from my apt but the time it will take me to bag, and breakdown, etc.

I've never had to dismantle and reconstruct a tank this large so any suggestions?

And of course if you wanna help me out, I will gladly provide beer lol

An ice chest with an airstone would be better than bagging with oxygen.

Honestly, your best bet is to go to Academy, buy a Mr Bubbler. You can re-use it later to aerate your tank in case of a power outage.
Second go get a $10 20g tote from Wal-mart. Fill it with 10g of aquarium water and put the bubbler in the tote. Fish out all your fish and put your heater, unless you run your place at 75+ during the move. Leave the fish at the place you are living at right now, while you break down your tank.
Move the tank to the new place. Setup the tank, fill it with water etc..
Get everything running, pumps etc with substrate, rock work setup. If planted you will need to plant the tank etc..

Then return to the apt once everything is up and running at the new place. Your fish should be fine in the tote. Make sure you get the kind that black or blue lining and a lid. You want them to "sleep" during your move. If its clear plastic they will see light and will be more active in the tote.

Once you return to the apt, have help and move the tote to your car/suv etc, and drive your fish to their new tank. Once you get to the house, dump all the fish in to the tank. I basically did this when I upgraded my Mom's tank from a 75 to a 90RR.. the only thing I didnt have to do was to move tank and fish.
They lived in the tote without any issue for about 5-6 hours as we broke down the tank, setup the new tank, test is for leaks in the RR etc..

It was a long process, but it was completed and I was happy with the results..

+1 on the ice chest with an air stone. You may also want to add either some amquel or some of the bait saver/game fish holding electrolyte additives that are available in the fishing section of your local sports/outdoor store. I've used "Please release me" crystals that I bought from Academy with good results. You can also use Jungle's "Bag buddy" tablets, for similar results.

Do not use Bag buddies if you have any silver side fish your holding tank. I lost 2 Xeno's (out of 5 in the bag). Then I took another delivery on another 36 which where moved without Bag Buddies and they are still alive to this day
*I hate bag buddies* just my 2.3 cents

Really? Ok. I've never had problems with "Please release me". It's what made the water that was in the jars of fish I sold at the GHAC auction look like lime Kool-aid. That stuff is designed in keeping bass alive, so it helps with the stress. That's my 69 cents.

I would never add anything like bag buddies to my cooler when I move fish.

As Jesper rightfully stated all they need is a bubble maker....

Plus, anyone could use the portable ones in time of power outage.

I don't know about "Please release me."

I am only moving 20 minutes, and breakdown and setup should take me more than an hour a piece. I don't think I need any chemical additives, and I have plenty of coolers to transfer them in. 4 angels, 4 rams, a bristlenose pleco, 9tetra, 2 loaches, and about 15 other small fish that should be fine.

I think I could bag them and they would be fine but every shop I go to uses oxygen in the bag,...it gives the bag more bounce plus they can stay in the bag longer. Instead of oxygen I've just used an air pump to inflate the bag. I think the fish will be fine but of course I always want to be careful as possible,...better safe than sorry.

This is understandable to be careful. Many of us have moved fish before and bucket with bubbler or ice chest honestly is the easiest way to handle your problem. And if you bag them using outside air for only 2-3 hours tops. Not to worry about the O2..

Again I suggest bucket / ice chest with a bubbler and you will be fine

I have shipped fish (overnight in bags) without O2. Just bubbled the heck out of a bucket of water for about an hour. So if you aerate the water, they will be fine.
