  • heater wattage? 125g 6ft tank?

I was curious to see what watt heaters you guys run in houston. What can I get away with? I really like the Stealth Submersible Heater 250-watt. Because I run the smaller ones in my 10gal tanks.

Will 250w be big enough for my 125gal?

My choices: (units I like and would consider buying)
    Stealth Submersible Heater 250-watt
    Jager 250w

    Visi-Therm Heater 300-watt
    Visi-Therm Heater 400-watt

I am running a 200w visi therm stealth model in my 110 gallon tank sitting in the wet/dry sump and I have 0 problems keeping the tank temp at 80 degree's all day long.
House is kept at a perm 71-72 degree's. My roomie does not like it hot where he lives.. this is why he pays the bills.

You will be fine with the 250w I can promise you this.
I have a total of 400w running in my 180 and I am soon going to downgrade it back down to a 250 because I dont want to use the extra power

Also keep in mind Mhx your tank is topless and a lot of heat is lost at the surface....I think the 250w will probably work but it will be on quite a bit. Id try to get a 300w if you can.

I used two 200W Stealths in my 125. They worked well at keeping the discus at 84F. I used multiple heaters on that tank in case one failed while I was away, especially in winter when I keep the house at 65 to 70F. The tank now has an additional two 100W stealths just in case the furnace goes out while I'm out of town. I've got a lot of money tied up in these discus and don't want them getting chilled in winter.

                  General rule is 3 to 5 watts per gallon. 125g X 4watts/g = 500 watts

I would recommend 2 heaters at 250 watts each.

He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

Bumping to 85F to see if I can get 82-83F while I do my fishless cycle.
