  • Discus vs Trophs/Petros

OK guys. From my observation there is two "ultimate" fish that HFB goes for: Discus and Trophs/Petros.
Which is REALLY the king of tropical fish. I want a good clean debate, no fighting, no arguing. Just want to hear both sides of the coin. Ok, go for it!

    Its a personal preference.
Does it really matter as long as the one who is keeping them are happy with their own fish

I have kept both and choose different qualities to be better in both fish

        Looks---Discus
        Gracefulness(if thats a word)---Discus
        Mating dance---Tropheus
        Babies---Tropheus Fry are awesome
        Feeding time---Tropheus
        Activity---Tropheus
        Simplicity---Discus
        Personal Enjoyment---Tropheus

        Overall King---Tropheus---My Personal Opinion.

I have kept both. Discus back in the 80's and Trophs in the 21st century.
Personally I changed completely from SA to African because I love the family structure of the trophs.
I keep many different African's and I love both non-trophs and other Tang's
If I kept many tanks, I would expand in both families.

Tropheus are energetic, boisterous, comical, aggressive, playful, territorial, and make me want to make a little aquarium purse so I can carry them around with me all the time.

Discus are regal, shy, majestic, calm, elegant, and make me want to dress them up in little tiaras and admire them.

Tropheus are more like your friendly neighborhood bar fish, and Discus are more of a tea party fish.

ok, i'll bite. I have kept both over the years and both are very colorful fish the reason i am attracted to keeping both. IMO discus are prettier than trophs but the interaction , hyperactivity and overall personality of trophs is much more appealling to me than the graceful discus. Its awesome to pack 40 into a 125 and watch 'em go ,you can't do that with discus. trophs are the King and discus can be the queen.

                              oh and ......
