HELP: Fertilizer & RCS

I read on aquatic Eden that RCS are sensitive to the elements in traces and can die. Has anyone had problems with their shrimp dying from fertilizer?

I haven't. You mean the ferts used for planted tanks, right? (May be a stupid question, sorry if it is, but got to cover all bases.) :)

From what I hear, invertebrates and copper don't mix. But I've asked this question before concerning the trace amounts of copper in Flourish Trace, and haven't heard from anyone who says it is a problem. And many, many people have their RCS in planted tanks that are dosed with ferts, so I don't think there is a problem.

I use flourish twice a week and excel when I do water changes. I haven't noticed a problem. I do dose conservatively.

I dosed heavy ferts in the 125 for 7 years and never had a problem with the shrimp as far as I know. I used individual compounds for the first few years, then switched to dry PMDD about 4 years ago.

Yeah, copper is the main problem for inverts, which is why most treatments for parasites, ich, and other such bad things are primarily made of copper. This is also why you should remove snails and other inverts from tanks if you are treating for a parasite or disease. Trace wont kill shrimp, unless you pour half a bottle into a tiny tank... The same applies to other fertilizers. Snails tend to not like nitrates, but its not really a big detail, specially since snails don't normally find a home with plant enthusiasts...
