  • A new project...

My husband is trying his hand at building a tank. He works for a glass company, so he know all the specs, an ins an outs of glass, an pressures...ect. The tank is going to be built inside a frame/stand...this way it will be more structually sound. He is almost done with it, has it sealed an we get to fill it up with water today. I can't wait. It is HUGE...25 x 25 x 60. Ends up coming to about 162 gallons!!!! Lets just hope it hold water. The way he built it...I don't see why it shouldn't. But none the less...I can't wait to see.

Its made with yello wood 2x4, 2x6's, an treated plywood. 3in locker screws(is what he calls em)...so it's not pretty, but it is HUGE!!! I can't wait til tonite, he told me I have to wait til he gets off work to fill it up, so he can watch for any structual problems before they happen. The thing wiegh 200+ lbs by itself....HEAVY. He made it short to the ground too....so I can reach the bottom without having to use a step stool....lol...only problem with that is, an this might get removed...sorry, but when I lean over the tank, like to reacj the back/bottom, my upper anatomy gets in the tank.). Hubby laughed when I mentioned it, told me I wil have to reach for the snails on the bottom...some phrase out of a movie he seen...I don't get it, but whatever. Just something I will have to watch I guess. Some of you may know what he means...I don't. He just told me I will need to wear a white t-shirt.....so I know he is up to something!

Anyhow, I will try to post pics of the project soon!

If the construction isn't pretty, he can always add moulding to pretty it up.

As far as the height and t-shirts go, what you do in the privacy of your own home is between you and your husband. I suppose there must be something in the project to motivate him. )

lol i concur, the quote is from deuce bigalo male gigalo. and the only problem i have with that movie, is that he pulls what appears a few hundred gallon tank over all by himself, which the laws of physics expressly prevent, good luck on the project though.

setup a video camera on a tripod and film the fill up... that could become an internet classic if it fails! lol

cant wait to see pics, I'm curious about how he built it

He now has plans(already has 3/4 the material) for a 48x48x90 tank. He has 1/2 inch plate glass, an plenty of angle iron...he says he wants a welded stand this time cause it will look better....
