Well, those are two pretty colorful fish. :)

Show her some pictures of gouramis, barbs (rosy barbs, Odessa barbs, etc.), some of the larger tetras (Congo tetras, etc.), and maybe even GloFish. There are some really great community fish out there. :)

I would get some catfish for the tank, too. Probably a couple of bristlenose and a huge school of corydoras. They are nice looking, small, and very cute.

              Get cardinals instead of neons.

              Cherry barbs (red males)
              Torpedo barbs
              Rainbowfish of all kinds
              Kribensis (only 1 pair)
platties, swords (depending on the ones you get)
              rummynose tetras

There are a lot more, but that should get you going.

Ah, Rainbows! Thank you. I knew I was forgetting something! :)

Yes, Rainbows would be my #1 choice, along with the bottom dwellers I mentioned. In a 55, you could get a few types of rainbows. They're a beautiful fish, all of them.

All male tank African Hap/Peacock/Mbuna tank. One or two from each group should be fine... just make sure that they are all male. Also you should be able to pick up most ...if not all...of the below fish at the auction tomorrow. They will also be much cheaper than LFS prices.

                    Hap
                    Taiwan Reef
                    Super Red Empress
                    Electric Blue Ahli

                    Peacock
                    Anything in the Aulonacara family

                    German Red
                    Rubescens
                    Sunshine Peacock
                    Ngara Flametail
                    Bi-Color 500

                    MBUNA
Yellow Top Mbamba (Less Aggressive than Demasoni)
                    Demasoni
                    Yellow Labs

                    Catfish
Pretty much any would be fine. I'm just partial to Clown Loaches

Double the number of cardinals you have. They are shoaling fish and having just 5 is really a small number. 10 would be better (20 even better, but at least 10 would be good).

Check on the black widow tetras, as well, since most tetras are shoaling fish. I'm not familiar with this particular fish, but one of two things can happen when a shoaling fish isn't in a large enough group. They'll either get stressed to death or they'll become aggressive.

Everything else should be quite happy in the tank as is.
