thats what the people said on the site.
i didnt think they were native to australia, i think they are an invasive species.

this one is supposedly about 10ft.
yes the way the pic was taken makes it look like its 14ft.

it was caught while bow fishing i believe.

          i thought it was cool:)

ive seen some 4-5ft alligator gars around my house in the bayous, but never one this large.

Yeah, you're right. Apparently they are now invasive in Australia.

That's insane...how else but from aquarists could they have gotten there? I mean, I'm seriously asking. Gar aren't a food fish, and though they're huge and have sharp teeth, they're not exactly a swift predator. Why would there be some sort of stocking program, or some government something-or-other, like we have for species that have been deemed "beneficial" in the past (albeit erroneously...)? It's really scary to think that they're in Australia because of aquarium hobbyists...I really hope that's not the case.

Just like the crap they did in Austin with the introduction of invasive plants, then brought in fish to eat it but they found something better to eat so then brought in other animals to eat the fish and there population is exploding.

                        What does that mean?

Gar aren't world-renowned for being a food fish.

yep...Gar balls is what is served in Louisiana. 4-5feet is nothing...come down here in the Trinity and see some 6+footers come up for air.
