To not accidentally confuse Ich with a virus, how about we change the analogy to this: It's like spreading hair lice. If you come into contact with it, you get it. Then you have to kill (1) the adult lice and (2) the eggs.

Once you get rid of it, you can become reinfected if you come into contact with it again if an adult or if eggs get into your hair again. For this reason, sharing brushes between people can spread lice in the same way that sharing aquarium tools (nets, water changers, buckets) can spread Ich from an infected tank to a healthy tank.

Ich is like a little bug that's living in the tank. You have to kill it and its eggs to get rid of it.

This is why I suggested asking for help with the specific tank in question. Lots of variables to consider, and many people can help catch things like this if the tank's particular specs can be given.

Easy thing that can be done to prevent ick are:

QT all new fish for at least 2 weeks.
Keep water quality good
Make sure fish aren't being bullies/stressed.

But the reality is sooner or later no matter how cautious one is, most people will get an ick outbreak. Catching it early is the key to a faster and easier recovery.

I am not saying 100% you will get ick. I am saying if you have been in the hobby long enough you have probably seen ick in your tanks at least once.

As far as inverts, there are certain methods you can use to help minimize losses with inverts

Oh, yes, of course you will get ich! Just remember to use the right meds since you're scaleless.

At least I hope you're scaleless.

And, yes, ich does itch. Just promise me that when you do get ich, you won't start flashing.
