  • PVC pipe - Is it harmful to fish

Is regular white PVC pipe harmful to fish? I am also curious about the black plastic pipes that are available. I thought I read something like that before. If it is harmful, what pipe can I buy at Home Depot that is safe to use?

For clarification, I am going to use the pipe to made hidey holes for fish.

I heard somewhere that there is a chemical in PVC which leaches out into the water. PVC is used for drinking water systems all the time so that didn't really make sense.

PVC fittings covered with pure silicone and then covered in substrate to match the tank. Not a bad idea.

My idea was to use larger diameter pieces on end with random holes drilled in it to create something like a hollow tree.

I think PVC pipe is only harmful to your fish if you're beating them with it. Studies have shown that being beaten with PVC pipe is generally harmful to health. I think. Do studies like these exist? If not, they should. Have a control group that you beat with feathers and a variable group that you beat with PVC pipe. If the variable group is harmed and the control group is not, it would suggest that the material has something to do with it. Otherwise, it might all be psychological.

Excuse me. I'm still waiting for the coffee to brew.
Trogdor was a man. Or maybe he was a dragon man. Or maybe he was just a dragon. But he was still TROGDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR!

You know, fish are great. I love my fish. But what I really want is a monkey.
