    Re: My new tank

How many did you put in the tank? Schooling behaviors tend to vary depending on the environment, and especially with how comfortable the fish are, so maybe it's a good thing!

      Re: My new tank

I started out with 6 but bought 3 more.  I've lost 3 so I'm back to six.  I never thought of it that way.  Interesting!

        Re: My new tank

Well, my flame tetras are dropping like flies and now I'm down to 4.  On a more positive note all my fish are still ich free.  I'm going to continue treating every other day and doing small water changes right before treating them until it's been 16 total days of treatment.  My plants look pretty so that's good.
        Here's some new pictures.

Here's my new tank.  I've rearranged some of the plants but still need to hide my cords.

Here's our new green severum-in QT!!!  He's full of personality and a pig at that (He's for my other tank).

Here's a pretty betta we picked up.  He looks red but the photo picked up a lot of purple.  I haven't had a betta in years.  I haven't decided if I'll put him in the new tank or not.

          Re: My new tank

          nice severum!

Have you thought about putting a background on the tank? You could use trash bag or construction paper to hid those wires and such.

I'm gonna add that the angels I got from Fishysue-Susan are eating out of my fingers and will greet me at the front glass when I approach! great little guys and I am planning a order of some Apistogramma cacatuoides Gold to accompany them.

Hope everything gets back to normal for you.

Sorry about your tetras...hope everything gets better soon.
Where are you keeping the betta now?

              Re: My new tank

Thanks for the comments.  This morning all my tetras were still alive and healthy.  I think tomorrow I'll exchange my sad little school for something else.

Eklikewhoa- I had been trying to find a tall enough background but had never thought of making my own.  That's awesome you angels are so receptive to you.  I've been thinking of some dwarf cichlids and ditching the whole school of tetras idea.  I think it'd be more fun.

Mzungu- Right now the betta is in my QT in one of those breeder basket things.

just to lit you know the dwarf cichlids (like apistos) can be a bit tricky. i know  a lot of us here have had trouble with them, and some successes. they are definately cool. just kind of a pain from my experiences and from several of our own too.

                    Re: My new tank

You should love them, I got them at your store!
I was thinking of getting the ram first.  What is so tricky about the others?  If you mean tricky like discus please warn me now!  Or maybe they're like angels and if they are locally bred they are easier to keep?
Do you think kribensis would work?  I realize they are africans but their pH range is up to 7.5 and they like softer water than the other africans.  Let me know if you have any other ideas.

                      Re: My new tank

Kribs and Rams seem to be pretty forgiving in my experience. Kribs aren't Rift Lake Cichlids, so you should be good to go on the water chemistry for them. Rams are great too, you can look at the Bolivian Rams or the Blue Rams.

I've got two apisto. cacatuoides and they haven't really given me trouble at all, but then again it's two females so they might not be as picky as they would as a male/female pair??

                        Re: My new tank

What I think Tiapan meant was that they prefer water conditions almost similar to that of discus but less critical. Also the starting stock of most LFS available Rams are asian pumped and pushed so they are less hardy and die easily.

start with good stock and if they are at the LFS let them sit there for a week or so before taking them home. They are really cool! I had a pair of Rams breed in my tank which was really awesome but they quickly truned on each other afterwards but I plan to ad some apisto. cacatuoides triplereds to my planted tank soon.

I've heard that about the rams.  I had a few a couple years back in a community tank and they did fine but that was in another city with different water.  I hate being so indecisive!  What I need to do is to buy 10 more large tanks so I can have them all!

well i know jim has tried keepign them and had lots of issues. mine were great for months then all but one croaked and cacatuoides are supposed to be the most forgiving. i had borelli's they all went belly up. i waited out macmastery at village till i thought all the ones that were gonna die would then mine went belly up after 3 weeks (at least one did cant see other but they are great at hiding. however was at fish ranch today and they have checkerboard cichlids (another dwarf) for 3.99 each. not bad. rams and kribs are much more forgiving in my experience. im partial to kribs myself. and yes i believe if someone local was breeding apistos they would be much hardier in our water thats why i am gonna try.

Ooh, checkerboards!  I was wondering if I could find those.  I saw them online and liked them.  Guess I know what I'll be up to this weekend.

Has anyone kept the dwarf flag cichlid laetacara curviceps?  Sounds like it is pretty hardy.
