  • Tank update

I added some wood to my aquarium today; the bristle noses seem to hardily approve (see pics). It gives them some hiding space and some wood to rasp on. Maybe it'll chill out my black b/n. Most days at feeding time, he'll flare out his sides and zip around the tank running into the corys (he'd run into the albino b/n, but that one knows to stay away from him) to get them away from the wafers. He'll also occasionally do it if the corys are hanging out around the veggies, but usually it's only at feeding time.

I thought b/ns were supposed to be peaceful and laid back. Anybody else ever had an aggressive ancistrus?

I have one male BN that tends to be pretty "uppity," but usually that's only towards the other BN in the tank. :) As for the other fish, he pretty much ignores them, but like you said, they also know to get out of his way. It's a mutual effort.

man, all the male bn pleocs ive had have been nuts, lol

i had 2x big 6" males, 1abn, 1bbn, and they would meet in the middle of the tank where it was just sand and swim around in circles swinging their heads.
they were insane, then i had 11 cories, and the abn would go after them whenever food hit the bottom.
i had one bbn that was 5"tl that would lay on his back at the surface whenever i fed hikari gold floating pellets so he could grab one and bring it to the bottom to eat it.

they are very smart little creatures.

the males tend to be more aggressive towards other bottm dwellers.
the females are pretty chill though, but they do tend to want to be first in line for grub.
      FRENCH FRY!!!
