  • A calvus surprise

I was sitting at my computer which happens to be next to our calvus/compressicep cube tank and i saw one of our calvus's looking lethargic and hanging next to the glass, i tapped on the glass to see if i could get it to move around for fear it was feeling poorly....when i tapped the glass it moved, it was then that i noticed that a shell had been right in front of her. as i leaned over and looked i saw something in the shell, i called CF to come see, there it was eggs in the shell, i asked CF if calvus's layed eggs?....he said he didn't know but there they were plain as day...and she came back over and commenced to standing guard over the shell, every once in a while putting itself into the shell to like fan them i guess....but it's guarding that shell big time....so if they hatch CF and i will be proud fish parents to baby calvus's.....i tooke pics of the mom and the dad who came near her as i was shooting the pics....forgive me i have an older camera and i'm not the photographer that semper has become.....)....but here they are.....

    thanks for reading...

Calvus are egg layers... and they find cracks in rocks or other VERY confined space where mom will guard her eggs very well. The female lays the eggs and the male fertilizes the eggs.. after that she stays with the eggs and daddy defends the territory.
