as a girl, who enjoys but does not get completely into the hobby, I can tell you from MY experience why...and this is not meant to offend any girls that are on here, this is just about ME. I used to enjoy going to the stores with my husband and helping him pick things out and all of that, but I think that girls prioritize differently then guys do. I have a full time job and a new daughter and I am pretty exhausted by the end of my days. I don’t have the time or money to put anymore of myself into anything else. I think that for the most part women choose different things to spend their efforts on. Men seem to be more into hobbies and gadgets, which is why you never see tool sales on mothers day, just fathers day. And women seem to lean more towards family oriented things, and shopping of course, its just how most of us are wired. Also, for the two fish guys in my life, front and newb, it seems like the guys I know have much more addictive personalities than women I know. It may be the way we are wired, but men definitely seem to get hooked on things more easily than women.
        I love my baby girl!

Do you mean NOT being grossed out is something we're born with or desensitized to, or BEING grossed out?

OMG....I'm wired like a dude. Just kidding...

Thanks for the other perspective! We needed to hear from someone on the other side of the fence. And I'm glad we finally have some topics you want to post on.

Just means your random samplings of grossness have been skewed to the right and your normaly gross is a couple of standard deviations off.
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

Thanks Geoff. :) I really appreciate it. I would rather they stay with you though...I'm afraid to introduce anyone new to that tank. The petros are E-V-I-L. Thank you though....you are too good.

I also think that my wife kind of got burned out on the hobby because when I was new, I wanted to go to every LFS in the houston area like 3 times a week. I was constantly talking about fish this and fish that. Now that I've kind of settled into what it is about the hobby I enjoy, I think she'd appreciate it more. I really want to set up another Discus tank for her and let her be 100% in charge of stocking and decorations. Maybe that'll help spark things up again.
