  • ac 110 questions

K, so I am setting up my 165 gallon tank at the restaurant that I am managing. Could I use ac 110's on it, say 2 of them?

I have decided to take my fish from home, my angels, rainbows, serpae tetra's, and am going to add more to the tank, once it cycles, i am going to have the wet dry on it, but am going to change over to the ac 110's, any thoughts?

next question does someone have some for sale?

About how many fish will be in the tank total ? You can use the AC 110s' on that tank with out a problem...but if it were me...I would remove the carbon bag from the Ac 110s' and add more bio-media.

Also, I would add a power head to the tank for good surface agitation. Something like a Korakia 4 or any of the Koralia Magnums.

Leave the carbon so the water stays clear . Depends on how often you plan to do water changes

i have a wet dry on it, and am planning on doing angels, and tetra's, I have the power head in for surface agitation, just the stand is so high that my hose from the overflow to the filter is not long enough, and I prefer the ac 110's.........

In my opinion, the 2 AC's arent enough filtration. On my 125g, I run a Rena XP3, an Eheim 2217 and 2 AC 110's. I also do 3 water changes (50&#37 a week. If it's in your restaurant, it needs to be SUPER clean. Its a direct reflection of what your kitchen looks like in my opinion.

I agree with the above statement...I suggest you use like 2x Fluval FX5's. They are relatively inexpensive and are really good filters.

the thing that sux about the fx5 is the same as the magnum, the impeller is in the bottom, i love fluval, but to me that is a mistake.....I would take some if they were given to me, but personally, i don't want to spend the money on them, even though they are cheap......water changes will be 3-4 times per week, as it is here at my house!

IMO two AC 110s will be sufficient for reasonable stocking levels in that tank. I'd double up on the sponge inserts and rotate them bi-weekly.

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.

well, was originally going to do frontosa's, but the $$ is not there right now, so I am taking the bulk of the fish that I Have in it, with it, I also have 5 gold severum so, the tank is fairly active....I am just going to take all of the molly's out of it.......and leave everything else, am going to add 10 more bleeding heart tetras, and about 20 serpae tetra's, and about 4 or 5 clown loaches.....

Input from Dallas. ^^ Shawn i would run the 2 AC110's as stated above. The only thing i see being an issue is you run Pool Filter sand. and with just 2 AC110's you may get some stuff that just sits at the bottom of tank. And with AC110's and sand i would not extend the tubes too close to the bottom as sand will get sucked up in to the impeller. At least you wont have diggers flinging the sand around. I would throw a couple of extra Power Heads to get water moving a bit more. I am not a big fan of HOB but AC are suppose to be the best. As for the FX5 i love it. I have one on my 110gal and water is crystal clear. Of course the tank is grossly understocked but i plan on getting it up there soon and will tell you how that goes. And last but not least, if you want to run your W/D just Hard pipe it as it would be a cheap fix. Also get the 2 AC's in there, can never have too much Filtration.

I use AC's on all my tanks and if avg stocking a a weekley water change you may do well . As suggested above I use 2 sponges and some filter floss after cleaning to polish the water a bit. Never a problem and water is crystal clear.

FrontosaurusRex what in the devil are you keeping in that tank ?? Pic indicates Fonts ? Filter makers love to see you coming.
