  • New planted tank stocking

hey guys, i set up a little 5.5g planted tank just to do something new. its planted with anubias and crypts right now. im running a 15w halogen light on it and my questions is, im having trouble trying to stock it.

    current stock:
    5 brass tetras

i really like the brass tetras and ill probably get 10 more

what else should i stock it with? cories? apisto? shrimp? a combo? i got no idea, HELP ME OUT BOXERS

Tanks too small for a pair of apistos. One could live in it.

    Shrimp tank should be clean.
I ate my fish that died.

just shrimp imo with your tetras, add more if they are small. What are you using for filtration?

A 5g's pretty small for cories. You might be able to do a small group of pygmy cories, but even that may be pushing it.

I am not familiar with brass tetras. Do you have their scientific name?

and pygmy cories is what i was thinking, i have a shoal of cories in all my tanks. i just love them and i would love to put 5 or so in my 5g.

                15 brass tetras
                7 pygmy cories,
                10 red cherry shrimp

as for more plants i would say a carpet of moss, made out of an over priced $15.99 moss ball from fish gallery not the big ones though cause they are probably $40 like their 1" white feeder crawfish

Thanks, Mark. Seems they're also known as Hemigrammus rodwayi?

They're not gonna stay as small as some of the microrasboras and such, but...

                  Tater, 15 5cm tetras in a 5.5g may be a bit much?

Mark, what's the halogen light you're using? I'm curious. Is it a desk lamp, or something like that? How does it look on there? Anxious to see pictures of this tank! :)

With 5 fish that will grow to around 2 inches each, you really do not have any room for other fish. Maybe a shrimp or 2.

Mark, do 15 brass tetras!!! that would look dope! If/when they get too big, get new fish. Pretty simple.
