  • Hill Country Cichlid Club Auction

Has anyone ever been to the Hill Country Cichlid Club auction? How does it compares to the HAS auction, and is it worth the trip? Is it all cichlids or what?

I'm thinking about maybe checking it out on April 18th, but I will be :furious:if it isn't worth the trip, time, money, etc.... So what do ya'll think?

I've heard great things about it, if you're into Cichlids. Africans mostly, from what I've heard.

Went to the last one. Lots of plants, lots of Malawi cichlids. A few other fish, mainly BN plecos from what I remember. Not a ton of equipment. Lots of holey rock for cheap. It was enjoyable. I've never been to any other auctions so I can't really compare.
55g Planted- Malawi and Victorian Cichlids
35g Cube- P. Saulosi, Petrochromis, Sunshine Peacocks
20L Planted- RCS, Ghost Shrimp, Neon Tetras, Snails
            2.5g Planted- Snails, RCS

It is a more cichlid specific auction. There are a lot of malawi fish, but also a lot of victorians as well. The plants are there because one of the members sells plants online. Mostly Anubias. There is usually a lot of rock as well. Other than the HAS auction, it's actually my favorite auction to go to. I've been to every one they have ever had and its well worth the trip. You will see fish there that you can't see elsewhere. Dave usually brings alot as it's in the same city as his shop.

It was a pretty good one for me...though I wasn't looking for much. I got some Ophthalmotilapia boops Kipili (Neon Streak) from Dave (Dave's Rare Aquarium Fish), some Mchenga conophoros from Kory (KMX Aquatics), and some Paralabidochromis chromogynos in the actual auction. So I came away pretty happy.

I did well also. Fish wise all I got was Metriaclima sp. Patricki Jalo Reef. Someone brought a few RCS, so I got them. Got some different plants, such as Banana Lily and Marble Queen Sword. Very nice anubias this time, especially the smaller varieties. And of course, it was fun.
