Hey Everyone,
I had a brainstorm last week after having to help kick start two of my HOB's after water changes. I was dreading the thought of taking the whole unit off the tank and cleaning the impeller and its chamber. That scungy water splashing on me and the floors, the awkward manuvering for a short person like me....you know.
Turkey Baster!!! So simple, so available and so cheap!
I used it today to siphon out the "ookie" water left in the chambers of the HOB's. For the coup de grace, I pulled up the lift tubes to get at the impellers and blasted them with a stream of tank water a few times to loosen the scunge. Then I sucked out the water around impeller.
My filters are working better than they have in a long time.
This may prove effective enough to negate the need to actually remove the filters and take them apart for cleaning. We'll see.
All the Best
