  • Any microbiologists on HFB?

WHAT IS THIS??? It's a recording of a 200x magnification of some of the fungus I'm treating on one of our pond fish. But what is that specifically???

Oh yeah, I know its not the fungus. But when I did a squash of some of the fungus, THAT creeped into the view. There are some other's as well that I'm trying to ID. Small, oval shapes that are moving.

Mike - know any websites that might help me figure out what this is?

with more examination im thinking more like some type of protzoan. most likely the other oval ones you saw were protozoans too.
i dont know of any websites but i will ask my micro teacher if he would be willing to id it for me.

That would be great! I'm just really surprised all the meds didn't kill this. This stuff fascinates me. Plus, figuring out what it is will help me figure out if it's contributing to the problems with the fish.

No. I'm trying to beat a fungus right now and I don't think Metro works on fungus....does it? I just don't want to medicate him to death.

I thought that it was a protozoan / worm thingy.

Oh yeah. It is. Sorry. The history is that I have a pond fish with a horrible fungus...blogged about it here...and I took some of the fungus and magnified it. But instead of seeing only the fungus...that creepy thing showed up. So then I was thinking maybe there was an underlying parasite issue, but the link cichlid1409 posted shows that it's probably just a ciliate and is feeding on bacteria.
