  • Pump for pond

I got a new pond I am setting up in my yard. And I was thinking on trying to use a Eheim 2217 to filter and power the water movement if possible. Anyone done this before with a outdoor pond? Ideas? Help?

Unless the pond is very small, a 2217 would not be a good idea. Ponds tend to have a lot more debris such as leaves and grass. That will clog up the filter fast. I would do a mag pump into a dump filter like John says. This setup moves way more water and less maintenance.

This coming from someone who doesn't set up ponds...at least bigger ones...Dump Filter? Mag Pump? Help?

It is going to be a larger pond. It got given to me sorta (cheap price, just had to go dig it out), so I don't know the exact gallons. But it consists of 3 ponds, and a small water flow/fall. Top piece I would say is about 30-50 gallons, flowing into another accross the water fall thingy, the next one is about 80-100 gallons, which has a 2.5 inch pvc pipe coming out of it at one end that is about 3 ft long, finally flowing to the larger pond that I would say is about 300 or more gallons. So its all got some size. And I have never set one up like this. I would love to make a landscaping/scenery with it, just need help getting it flowing. The three top peices are all poly/plastic. The large pond is fiberglass with a black finish, about 12-18 inches deep. I will post pictures of them all in a few...I need help on this one guys. I am not pond smart. I have taken care, and cleaned many, but never paid attention to the mechanics of such. Oh, Hubby wants to know if a portable pool pump would work???....I told him I didn't know, but would ask....?

I am not sure what you need exactly, but you may look into Harbor Freights... Ive seen pumps listed in there paper for pretty cheap. Dont know the quality of them though

That's way bigger than I expected, scratch the mag pump. Choose a pump that has good flow because it will create the waterfall with it's power.
