A while back I bought a 55 gal tank that had been a sump and a stand that was missing its doors for a very reasonable price. I installed doors and painted the stand, removed the baffles from the sump, and painted the back of the tank. It all turned out pretty nice and looks pretty clean but the stand isn't really well built.
Then I bought another 55 gal tank from a friend for roughly the same price. He needed it gone and his estimations of the dimensions were off quite a bit. I thought it was going to be larger. I didn't know it was a 55 until I got there but figured I'd buy it anyway. When I bought it, I told my wife I would sell another tank due to lack of space and funds. This new tank is fairly old but is extremely sturdy. It has 3/4" glass and a glass centerbrace. It came with an Eheim 2013 and a very solid stand. Supposedly it was $1300 when it was brand new but that was a while back.
A friend suggested taking off the trim. I think the glass will clean up well and there are few scratches. But then again, I already have the sump tank up and running. Which one would you keep?
