  • Leslies Pool Filter Sand?

Got a bag of this stuff, told them I wanted the white coarse type...they said all they carry is not white but "off-white". Is this normal? Most the stuff I have seen ya'll talking about is referred to as WHITE. And it seems to look white in most pictures I see of it. This stuff is, well.....off-white. Did I get the wrong stuff? It is called or sold as "pool filter sand". Cost me $9 and some change...so not to fret, just wanted to make sure I am not missing out on something a little lighter in color.

I guess it just threw me off some when they said it was off-white, and it is always referred to as white. Thank You....I plan on putting it in the 29 bow front......from there, I have no idea. Just don't have a tank with PFS yet...all of them are either natural or black gravel or sand, or bare.

I just remembered that I have an almost full bucket of some fine sand that is lighter in color than PFS. I bought it from a member on here and never used it, it was called sugar sand and you are welcomed to have it if you are ever in Houston.

Ive bought 3 50lbs bags from them in the last month. The cashier told me they only sell one color and one size bag. The bag was white with a blue opening to pour from.

The stuff I bought a while back was also "off" white. Before I bought that, I had been warned about other white sand being dangerous to the fish. Don't know if that is true or not. Never dared to try.

The PFS is even darker when wet.

Thanks, but I fear the sugar sand might be too fine.

I am kind of tinkering with this tank, and am going to explore some fish other then guppies...YA YOU HEARD ME....something other then guppies. Starting at the substrate and going from there....who knows what will end up in the tank.

Probably something that would never even think about eating a guppie.

Off white looks more natural anyhow.
I ate my fish that died.

I did my home work on sand before settling on my tanks set up. Pics are up of it if your interested. Its planting substrate under gravel under sand. or there abouts. It keeps the sand from packing and allows the roots to grow with out fear of the dreaded root rot that plagues all sand substrate tanks. And pool sand starts off more of a tan color when its in the tank and shows the junk and grime much much easier; it turns green or brown in hue unless its actively vacuumed regulatory. I have seen that a couple times on A&M's campus over in wild life and fisheries tanks thanks to my old roommate.

Not in this house. Was leaning towards either assorted barbs(cherries.....ect), or tetra/danio/ect. Maybe even some small cichlids like badis or rams too.
