Here are my guesses. I'm pretty certain of 3 and 5.

        1. Melanochromis johanni
        2. ??
        3. Melanochromis auratus
        4. Pseudotropheus sp. "Acei"
        5. Melanochromis chipokae

        These guys don't play. . .

Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

Tim you have def been the most help. The second one I got at fish gallery when I was up there and now i cant find anything on him. And I got the Acei while I was up there but He just dosent have any blue to him he is more brownish thats why I questioned it. Also do you thing that the melanochromis auratus could be a mix of something else? He just doesn't have a defining line down him..

chipokae are evil....man I have seen them kill fish 3 times their size...definatly up there in the list of most agressive cichlids....but once they go beyond 4 or 5 inces they slow down......

#2 - The only yellow cichlid with black stripes I know of is Metriaclima crabro, aka Bumblebee cichlid or Hornet cichlid. But I'm just guessing.

Did you get him off a tank along the back wall? If you did, then imagirlgeek may be on to something. Do you have any other pictures of that fish?

He could certainly be (they all could). Sometime when fish get injured, what was originally a straight line could get splotchy.

I got him from the same row that the red zebras were on.I really reallly dont think he is a Metriaclima crabro, I already have a bumble bee and I wouldnt have got another his body shape is different. But I will try to snap another pic and post it soon. He just always hides under the drift wood. He is hard to get a shot of.

Number 3 looks like another Auratus. As for number 2 I'm not sure, maybe some kind of Hap.

You're right...he's definitely squattier, or something. Interesting...whatever he is. I'll go through my books and see if I can find anything similar to him. He's a keeper, whatever he is. Can't wait to see him grown out!
