  • Green growth on glass - very hard to remove.

I have a build up on my glass that is green. It is extremely firm and very difficult to remove. I worry if I scrub much harder that I will scratch the glass.

I have tried the big magnet and the brillo pad on a stick with very limited success.

I am already using as little light as possible, but the room gets natural light from the skylights.

Pleco have had marginal results as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Razor blade can scratch the glass if not used carefully.

I just use a credit card and it works fine.
I ate my fish that died.

The sun light is causing the dark green algae on the glass . I have a tank that sits in front of a window and gets direct sunlight . This is the only tank that gets that dark green hard to remove algae . I'm thinking that the sunlight actually bakes it in more therefore making it a little harder to remove .(strictly just a guess..though) I clean that tank with a small terry cloth and it comes off pretty easy .

+1 on the razor they have plastic versions at most petstores fairly cheap.

              It's Green Spot Algae.
If glass, use a single edge razor.
If acrylic, use a credit card.

Or get the algaefree magnet. That sucker will remove the algae in one swipe. I got the Great White for my 300G and it destroys it but the magnets are super strong so watch your fingers.
