  • CPDs for nano tanks?

The above article suggests what I put in the topic: celestial pearl danios for freshwater nano tanks. Now, I've really wanted some fish in the aquarium trade that were small enough for such things (like those smallest fish in the world types), but celestial pearls? That seems really counterintuitive. First of all, you couldn't keep that many in there and it seems to me that there isn't enough room for them to comfortably swim around.

Does anyone here know something I don't?
Trogdor was a man. Or maybe he was a dragon man. Or maybe he was just a dragon. But he was still TROGDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR!

You know, fish are great. I love my fish. But what I really want is a monkey.

They are not energetic like the zebra danio's we are all use to. They stay small, not over an inch as the article says. I compare their energy level to a killifish. They are more a "bursty" mover, but generally prefer to just lounge around. As for a nano tank, I guess the question is how nano you are going to go. I consider a tank nano if it is under 10 gallons. Most of the nicer nano tanks sold are 3 gallons, or as big as a fluval edge at 6 gallons. These guys could definitely go in those setups. Smaller than the 3 gallon, and you are ganna get into the super-rare, "nano of the nano" fish, which are usually some breed of rasbora. Personally I would just go with shrimp in that case.

Oh yeah. I wouldn't get anything smaller than a 3 gallon. Unless I wanted to put two or three mushroom corals in it.

I really like the three gallon nanos that are available. They're nice, but they're also pretty darn cheap.

Well, that's really good to know. How many should go in one, though? One fish per gallon? One and a half fish per gallon? How do you keep half a fish alive? (Okay, enough silliness.)

      Thanks for the info.

The filtration on those little tanks is not A+ in my opinion. They are good, but not amazing. I can't speak for an edge, never looked at the hardware for that. I would put some shrimp to clean up detritus. I would put 3 if you are just adding decor. If you add an anubia, you could probably have 5...

Well, I know that one of them - from Tom Aquatics - comes with that very nice Rapids Mini canister filter. I use one on a ten gallon and love it. Plan to get more, in fact.

I've only seen the HOB, which at least to me, seems to be where they cut corners to save on cost. If you're using a quality canister filter, then I would say 5. Any more and you will probably get cramped. These guys like places to hide, so don't just pack it full of fish.

I have about 10 in a 5.5 gallon and they seem to be loving it. They do like a lot of hiding places. Very beautiful fish and one of my all time favorites.

I'm getting excited about this, lol.

The only place I know of that occasionally gets celestial pearl danios is Fish Gallery... anywhere else local?
