Re: 10 gallon rosy barb tank

Time frame does not matter if there is nothing to jumpstart the cycle, either that or you are going through another cycle/mini-cycle.

are there any dead fish in the tank?
did you check the water parameters of your tap water?

oooo... there's the problem right there..... No wonder it's still not cycled
Benifical bacteria live in the filter. You WANT the filter to be filled up with this bacteria.

Don't change out the filter (sponge or floss?) totally. During water changes, just rinse it out with the waste water from the tank, enuff to get the mulm out, and then put it straight back into the filter.

Don't worry about the cloudiness, it won't harm the fish. The more serious problem is keeping the NO2 and NH3 under control (since your tank is not fully cycled). It seems like everyone else who posted on this thread seems to think so too... hence all the questions about cycling and NO3 and dead fish and stuff. So don't be offended by the seemingly endless questions.

Keep testing to make sure the water is safe for the fish, and keep up the WC's. You should be fine....

i still highly reccomend Biospira... it's a quick and effective fix (albeit slightly expensive) for situations like this.

If you need to clean the filter pads use a bucket of old tank water that you removed to rinse it out in but for now just leave it be.
