  • What the heck is this?

    Hiya, folkses.

For the last four or five days, I've noticed this thing on the glass inside of my betta tank. It's translucent, so I had to place something black behind it to get my camera to focus on it. Here are three pictures of it:

Okay, so I'm thinking eggs or bryozoan. The nerd that I am is excited about whatever the heck it is.

As far as eggs, there are only three things in the tank large enough to have eggs that size: ramshorn snails (too small), one male betta (no way), and two otocinclus (how friggin' neat would that be?).

If it's a bryozoan, which I think is more likely, then some of you might remember I was asking about such things in another forum, so that would be awesome, as well. (I remember someone shared a pic of either a bryozoan or a sponge that was growing in a tank at their workplace.)

So come on, people. Gimme your knowledge and wisdom. I'm eager to hear the suggestions. You may also express envy if you wish.

But I've never seen these snails lay eggs on the glass... and aren't these too big for that if they're eggs?

I'd have to guess they were snail eggs as well.

Snail eggs. I got an infestation of little snails and when they get big, they lay these everywhere. Check your plants, if you have any. They lay them all over anything.... Including lazy plecos.

Laying eggs on plecos... that's too funny. Makes me wonder about the otocinclus in there. I've seen one of them ignoring a snail crawling on it.

Well, I started out with two of them and this one was so lazy I actually thought I'd bought a statue figurine of a pleco when I got it. He would let the other little one I got sit one top of him and suck along his side, just twitching to get him off but doing nothing more... It was amusing.
