They will be more comfortable with just room light . The next best lighting that I have used was a 50/50 or a fixture that has a 10,000k and an Attinic lamp .

Yeah I've read about room lightning. My tank isn't near a window. I do plan on reducing the amout of time my fixtures are on each day.
are these WC fish??? if not, then they dont give a crap. I brighter light will give brighter white bars and lighter blues in the fish. I darker light will give off darker colors on the fish. If WC, I would go with a simple low-light over the middle of the aquarium. Farm-raised fish wont know/care about the difference in light.
This is a poll that is going to produce a wide range of opinions, no one will agree with anyone else because eveyone thinks what they have is the best. I personally agree with Dave's post. In my opinion, when it comes to Frontosa/Gibberosa and lighting most of the time room lighting works. Lighting in most cases is for US. If u have a show tank in your living room of course u want the best lighting you can get (or afford to get). As everyone here knows Frontosa are deep water fish are can do quite nicely in a low light environment. I have long ago quite buying high dollar lighting.

Very true statement. I like to have a light on my tank because they are in the den and in my show tank. Thats why I chose the lowest light possible that can still achieve the "look" i wanted. I'm sure my fish dont give a crap if its LED or tube lighting but when I used the Coralife fixtures, my Fronts hid alot and tried to stay out of the light. Now that I have the Marineland, my fish use the entire tank and actually spend more time in the center where everyone can see em.
if its like burundi's then go with semi-bright lighting but not if they are wc it brings out more of the stripes.
But if its like zaire even if wc or not you shouldn't use too bright lights.

It's a group of F1 Burundi's from Mikeb144. I've put a lot of effort (including sanding stripping, replacing hardware and staining) a 125 gallon stand and canopy. Plus all new filtration and a nice aquascaping job in the ner future.
I want the tank to look really good while at the same time getting the most benefit from and for the fish.
I'm a long time hobbyist and i want this tank to be the best of the 20+ tanks I've done over the years.
