  • Thinking of changing up the 240.

SO I need to suggestions, I have been thinking of changing it to a Central America Vieja tank, Haven't seen many try this or keep any of them besides the Vieja synspilum in general. I need to know what yall think about this. I know a couple of them don't do well together and I know there will be aggression but I want to keep it as low as possible with the right selection from this species. If I was to go this route which would yall suggest? Also how many of them in this tank I know a couple of the species can get up to 16 inches and a couple get 12 inches or smaller. I was thinking 5 to 6 of them would be ok? I would also like to try to keep the driftwood in the tank but Im afraid it just wont work with these fish being this big.

Here is a link on the Vieja family if you are not familiar with them.

If I restock the tank I am going to try to sell off all the old stock and overhaul it after it is empty, I want to drill it set up a sump, I am really looking at the Marineland model 4 sump, I like this design a lot, But it is pricey. ( http://www.marineland.com/sites/Mari...=3071&mid=3226 ), or Im just goin to take the extra 45 gallon long i have and turn it into a sump (but it looks boo boo). I plan on keeping the 2260 on it and i havent decided if Ill keep the 2 xp3's on it or take them off and get another 2260/2262 to replace them. Also I will sit the tank on a new stand and canopy im going to have justin build soon. So, this is all going to have to be timed out right.

Please let me know all comments and suggestion yall have, Other stock/ filtration/ ect.

However, I do not want to do discus, trophs or petros.

I would definitely go with another Eheim. Drill the bottom of the tank for the intakes. And also go with a sump when I come out there to drop off the stand I can bring all the materials to turn your 45gallon into a killer wet dry we can make a weekend out of it bro.

Sounds good dude! Can anybody else think of any different stocking suggestions? Im going back and fourth on the viejas, I have been reading more up on them and only a few are able to be kept together with out high aggression and they arnt the most stunning ones of the bunch, also Im finding it hard to find them.

Can I think of a different stocking suggestion? cyps, featherfins, and sandifters . . .

There are quite a few Malawi Haps that would be kinda fun . . . not too many people on this board keep them. Fossochromis, Buccochromis, etc . . .

I've got nothing against viejas though. I just don't know anything about CA/ SA cichlids.

Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

If you're staying with africans that 240 would make a killer male peacock/hap tank or you could always go the troph route.

I'd probably go with armthehomeless - benthochromis or cyps up top and foai and xenos/enantiopus on the bottom. Toss in some random other tangs that interest you and you've got the makings of an awesome tank.

Another route that would be cool is a lightly planted tank with geophagus or angels and huge schools of tetras or rasboras, cories etc. Small fish in big tanks look great. One thing I like about this idea is that you see it commonly in 75s but rarely in something as large as 240 gallons.
