EHEIM 2217 Canister Filter

Purchased a Eheim 2217 filter with no media. Need to know if I should purchase the media that comes with the filter or can I just load it up with the plastic pot scrubbers. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

In mine I use quilt batting, coarse foam pad, and purigen.

You could go with the pot scrubbies , but I would either use the Eheim media or Seachem Matrix .

Btw....I load mine with coarse pads.....Seachem Matrix......Purigen...and quilt batting.

Anything with lots of surface area; Matrix, scrubbers, lava rock, etc. Quilt batting makes an excellent fine filter but tends to clog easily if you have heavy mech. filtration needs.

In my 2217s I use the coarse pad, Effimech, substrat and floss.

They were designed to run with Eheim media so IMO run it with the recommended media

By the time you purchase media you could have got a brand new one for the same price with media. Go cheap pot scrubbers and pillow floss.

-1 pot scrubbers clog up fast and there is no way to clean them without killing the filter. If you're going to do it, do it correct
