With the original equipment you listed, i would go for freshwater.

However if you are willing to spend a little bit more to get some more equipment, then i'd say go saltwater.

I say go buy aqauclear 110 and add it to the equipment you have.

in the ac110 fill it with live rubble, purigen, and a sheet of quilt batting on top.

get an oceanic biocube protein skimmer and pickup a Martin shrimp.

I have read mantis shrimp can break your tank. Is this true?

Never heard of mantis cracking tanks; pistol shrimp, yes but not mantis. Doesn't mean they can't just never heard of one doing it.

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.

A peacock mantis in theory could do it, its the most likely to do it, but it would have to seriously misjudge the glasses distance from itself its unlikely to happen.

Hmm... cracked 29 gallon mantis tank? or... cherishing a 29 mantis tank while it lasts....
I might do it. Gotta research how to successfully keep a SW tank since this'll be my first. Maybe i'll keep damsels in there for a while before I go big with a mantis.
