  • Blood Parrots

I have a female Blood Parrot that is laying eggs, does anyone know what mate I can put with her.  I have herd that a convict would work, so I put a large male with her, but he does not seem to be doing his part.

      Re: Blood Parrots

I have never heard of them breeding, I thought there was some myth that they were mostly sterile.  But you could try one of the fish that they were supposedly derived from either a Severum or a Red Devil possibly.

Supposedly many of them are fertile now that they've been around a while.

It is true that the Blood Parrots  are hy-brids coming from possible the Red Devil/Severum or the Midas/Redhead cichlid.  And there have been reports for pairs of Blood Parrot breeding, but most are sterile, and finding a proven male might prove to be inpossible, or close to it.

Males are 85-95 percent sterile....the girls are less then that. I have heard of people putting pink male convicts and making jellies aka jellyfish.....AKA SMALL Bloodparrots!
