Got together a 10 gal tank for my moms gift on mothers day and for the longest I wanted to get her some pea puffers. Now i am leaning towards barbs. I need some serious advice! Who prefers what fish and why they prefer it?

Not sure about pea puffers but barbs are pretty active which I like. I say maybe just setup her tank and give her a gift certificate so she can pick her own fish? -
I really like pea puffer, they're more like a pet, they're always looking at you when you're near them.
Barbs i think are just eeehh, and it's also just a ten gallon. I also like neon tetras cause they swim together and are very active, some type of cichlid might also be nice.Comment

Puffers. It's like a miniature underwater dog! So curious of all their surroundings! I am slowly growing my relationship with my puffer. It used to be terrified of me and swam violently away when i cleaned the tank and now it comes near the glass when I'm around and swims near my hand while gravel vac-ing. Live food is a must though... Mine wont touch anything else other than worms, RCS babies or snails. So i Don't know how your mom keeping live food around would be but if it's not a problem i say PUFFER!Comment

Jose-Cant just give her a gift certificate knowing her she will get something that'll outgrow the tank fast. Electric-Your right...barbs need 30gal plus. Ivan-you talked me into get the puffer although i don't know how she is going to react to live foods other than snails, I have heard they can also live on froen foods that used to be alive maybe i'll try to go that route! A small school/shoal of cherry barbs, rosy barbs, pentazona barbs, or the like would do pretty well in a 10g. :) They're very pretty and very active, as well, and will eat pretty much anything. :)"Millennium hand and shrimp!"Comment

I give my puffer frozen bloodworms once a week and loves it. As long as you can train it to eat frozen you should be fine.

i give my peas frozen blood worms all the time, and they took care of the snail infestation i had in my 20 gallon in a matter of daysComment
