  • Need some advice if I should immediately drain this 240.

Im in the middle of cleaning the 240 and as I was cleaning the inside of the glass, I ran my fingers up and down on the tow left vertical seals and the have quite a few air bubbles in them. I really don't know what to do about it. I don't know if they are not a big deal and I shouldn't be concerned or to drain it now. I have never dealt with a tank leaking. I have not other tanks that are big enough to hold the stock. SO I would prob have to make a trip to Houston to unload all of the fish tonight or tomorrow. I also have never resealed a tank. Im practicing right now on a tank I got for free. But Im really nervous about resealing a tank this big. Please give me your suggestion.

If the bubbles are dripping from the inside and leaking to the outside, drain immediately and reseal or you will risk a major leak. Thats 240gal of water on the floor.

You still have time then but eventually it will leak thru, overtime with pressure. How much time is unknown.

That's all that really needs to be said for me. I'd reseal. It may be a PIA but imagine cleaning up 240 gallons of water. We had our 60 gallon water heater fail and it caused 20K worth of damages to our hardwood floors (half the house had to be replaced). I can't even imagine what 240 would look like on the floor. To me it would be worth the hassle just for the peace of mind.

                +1

I just reseal three of my tank 180, 137 and 75. My 180 and 137 silicone look like your picture and silicone started to peel at the bottom.

Glass cages. So I know that they do really sloppy silicone jobs...... There is no bubbles in between where the glass panes meet though.

Not sure I picked it up used. The guy I bought it from had it sitting in a garage and it didnt look to old. He said he paid 725 for it when he bought it, so Im thinking it was no older than about 5 years when I bought it. Didn't have any scratched or anything. and I had it sitting for about 9 months and I have had it up and running for close to a year now.

I have the same bubbles in the silicone in alot of my tanks. I would not worry about it.

Well thanks for all The input guys. After your comments and talking to a few people I think Im going to keep a close eye on the tank and seals between the glass, I'm also going to regularly check for moisture all around the tank and on the foam that the tank is sitting on. A lot of people have told me that I should be fine.

So after that I decided to continue with the overhaul I was doing on the tank, and rescaped it. I took Alot if yalls tips on trying to get the naturalistic river bed feel dialed in, and so Far Im very pleased with the final product. Just still kinda nervous about the tank its self.
