Re: Daphnia
Good morning Zulaab,
Yes, we have been raising daphnia for about a year and find them easier then brine shrimp. The key to their success is having enough green water to feed them. We do feed them yeast in the winter time if we are behind in having enough green water. We have daphnia magna and if you can wait a couple weeks we will be bringing some with green water to the HAS auction July 8th.
We live in Hitchcock just off of HWY 6; also close to I45 near Texas City on the way to Galveston. I just drove through Katy last week and will not be going in that direction any time soon.
We are building our cultrue back up after it peaking and heavy feeding the daphnia to our fish. We will have lots again in no time. Here is my email address kensteblein@aol.com later, ken/mark

Re: Daphnia
Sweet, I will make sure that I make that auction then.
Hopefully I will get to put some faces to some of the names here.

Re: Daphnia
Jesper,
Get you some green water culture started so that you will have plenty of food for them. The culture size is enough for a 5 gallon bucket or fish tank; I would have at least one or two 5 gallon buckets of green water ready on the side. Depending how many daphnia you have it will take 5-7 days to turn the green water to an ice tea color. We use a fish net that is medium mesh to harvest the 1/8" adults.
We usually only bring 2 cultures but will talk with Mark and could bring one culture for each auction table. They are easy to raise and the fish love the live food. Once you get your culture going have a back up one going because they some times crash. That happened to us once in the last year and we got some back from a friend and now keep several buckets going. later, ken

Re: Daphnia
Green water is not a problem. I will get a small aquarium today at Walmart and I will start a green culture, I can get buckets of green culture from my friends house, who has a green pond.
