You want to know how I keep my water clean without laying my fish on their sides? For example I have two Eheim 2260s and a wetdry with 20g of bio with two filter socks on my 180g. Just something to think aboutCustom Aquarium Cabinets Justin Henry 281-739-8723

Seems a little stressful laying them on their sides like that. But they are used to it and are tough fish. They really like your ultimate toilet flush. You could still do a 98 percent w/c by starting to refill when it's 1/2 drained for 15 minutes. If you are refilling with the same python you are draining with it will not work.200

How often do you do this? How do you keep the stress level under control? When I do anything over a 40% my fish are stressed for 2-3 hours. Maybe its because I have very hard well water, I don't know.300 W/C Burundi

Yeah, I don't see any real filtration other than 2 HOB on the top large tank, and what is I guess 2 small canisters on the bottom main tank. Either way, the tanks are drastically under-filtered.
This is a serious case of "You can, but I wouldn't".
What do you do if the power goes out? That many fish will burn through the oxygen so quick it's not even funny.
What happens if you aren't there to do huge weekly water changes? Does the water quality crash if you don't keep this crazy routine?75 planted (Being Renovated)

It looked like you had 2 hoses in there? Would it be as easy to have one draining while the other fills and let it run like that for 30 minutes (or an hour)? Of coarse, you have to make sure that you are not filling faster than you are draining, but that would be a good way to get a good flush, have only gradual temp/water quality changes and keep the fish swimming. Just a thought.

That's how EK used to do his water changes.. I wouldn't recommend it because it does look a bit stressful on the fish not being able to swim upright and all, but large water changes are great ways to control nitrite levels - especially in highly populated tanks like mine and marcus'.
On a side note, if you want help lowering your bio I would love to help you out! :)

And yes, it depend on the water within your area too. When i was living in arlington, texas; my fish act funny when i do water change. In New Orleans, My PH directly from faucet is 7.2-7.4; so the ph from my tank and source is almost the same :) BTW, i usually refill very slowly the first 6-7min and then full blast afterward :) You cant just full blast.... your fish will be in shock :)

Yes... Very good for you. I am not a big fan on wasting money on equipment but rather on quality collectible fish. How much did you spend on the equipments? My water bill is only $25 a month for usuage of 20k gallon....I save money on equipments, save money to get new fish, and my tank get fresh water weekly.
Correction.... My tank are not under filter; just over stocked!! The top tank have 2 x ac110 and fx5(cleaning) and bottom tank have 2 x fx5; one is rigged to a overflow box. You talking about 140g and 150g tank here my friend. I live in a stupid state that have yearly hurricane and power outage; i am more then prepare for it. When power is out, my tank can last up to 5hr without power and i have backup power.
I am trying to add more, but lfs now-a-days dont carry much of anything. They have bunch of gay africans and tropical guppies. Very Very disappointed I am still in the hunt for datnoids
So done with this tread... not going to bash my head in over this.75 planted (Being Renovated)
