  • Ideas on leveling a tank?

    I dont know if my apartment is not level or my carpet or what but i was a dummy and didnt make sure my tank was leveled. Any ideas on how i can fix this now? Its my 85g. Any products to buy? besides a level of course. argh...

    You need to level the tank or keep it empty. The glass will crack on you.

    You can buy shims at HD. Add as needed.

        my tank is flat on the stand. the stand is not leveled.

          Just go to Home Depot or Lowes and pick up some composite shims. Don't get the wood ones because they will absorb water and get nasty on you. Should be in the doors section. Shim the stand, not the tank. And yeah, you want that tank as level as you can get it.

                I have used hydrolic jacks and a board under the lower side to lift it very slightly, though its far safer to empty the tank as much as possible first.

                  You've got carpet right? You should be able to get the shim started just by pushing on it. Once its started, whack it with a hammer till the tank is level then break or cut it off. Emptying the tank is ideal but if the tank is set up you can do a big water change and shim it when the water is low.

                    Yeah, that was the plan. Do a big water change and shim it. I do have carpeting. Thanks for the tips guys.
