  • My new project!!!!!

Recently, I was given the responibilty of setting up a aquarium that was donated by a "friend  of the university"

Anyway, the tank is a 192 gallon corner bowfront. It was recently set up as a full blown reef. I'm converting it over to freshwater and was thinking of doing a tang community tank.

    What tangs are community friendly?

Also, I'm going to use holey rock and sand in this tank since I have 4 bags and about 200 pounds sitting in my garage.

    Re: My new project!!!!!

It depends on what type of communtiy that you want to do. Cyprichromis work well with most other tangs and occupy the top part of the water column that alot of the rock dwelling tangs leave vacant. I had always wanted to do a tank with Benthochrims tricoti and Xenos...

Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

Benthos are probably out you price range then! That is why I don't have them...

Cyps aren't that expensive if you look in the right places. I would pick one type of julies and get several of them as opposed to getting each type and throwing them all in one tank. The leleupi make for pretty good community cichlids. Have you thought about calvus or comps? How about Paracyprichromis nigripinnis? All stay relatively small and aren't expensive. I loved watching my Syno. petricolas when I had them.

Tang cichlids are a bit more expensive, and there isn't much variety in Houston at the LFS IMO. Mail ordering may be a good option for stocking a tank that large.

True...but something about malawi tanks i never really cared for.

The only one I like is the one at ADG.

Yeah Malawi tanks don't cut it for me either and I think they are boring but to the general public they are nice.

                    Tim,

You've mentioned these Benthos before.  Do you have a site with some info on these that you can share?  I was curious as what these look like.
