Well whaddaya, know the thingamabob works! After talking to Justin, I installed a TOM aqua lifter pump and all works as planned on the first try. Did the power out test and it stops where I drilled the anti siphon hole in the tank return. Only problem is the pump is a hair too fast for the overflow. I think the overflow is around 800 GPH or so and the pump is at 1000. So after a few minutes it started sucking in air and bubbling up the tank. Gonna have to go to a slower pump. Either way, 800 GPH ain't bad for a home-brew overflow I'm off to look for parts/new pump.

Aren't the HFB gurus the best?! Before I headed out and did something stupid, I called algarciajr and had a little chat about what to do. Ended up deciding to play with the level of the overflow inlets below the water level. He said that since I'm using 1" tubing, there should me flow in the overflow than that. Well, that turned out to be true. I took off about 1/4" from the inlet elbows and gave it a go, with a broken impeller shaft in the pump no less (till the new one shows up).
The change:
The result:
I pull up the lifter pump towards the end of the movie. And you can really see the anti siphon hole working on the return pipe.

Did some trading and got a couple of male geo altifrons. So stock list now down to 40 fish, with more to be removed:
2 geophagus altifrons
2 red zebras
3 aceii
2 deep water haps
1 kenyi
2 red fin borleyi
1 strawberry peacock
16 BeefyG peacocks (what kind are they?)
6 red peacocks
4 bristle nose plecos
1 pictus catfish
The geos and 1 of the plecos are intended for my 55 gal whenever it's ready. Oh and Juggernaut is in here for the time being as well. Might decide to keep him in the 125 if I can get a breeder tank for him to molt in.
Whenever I was getting out the labs to trade for the geos, I had to take most of the rocks out, turned off the circulation pumps and wet/dry. End ended up stirring up some crud catching those buggers. I had to follow joseph to his place to pick up the geos, so I cranked everything back up before I left. I couldn't believe how clear the water was already when I got back about an hour later. This video was shot a couple of hours after that, after I put back the rock and waited for the water to clear up again. I like the way the wet/dry and FX5 work together.

Send BeefyG a PM and ask himScarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

This is the first "situation" I saw with my own eyes. She's the 5th one holding in the tank now and the tank is just 2 weeks old What now? I guess I'll have to get a breeder tank going... yikes. Maybe not, maybe just let the fry grow up with the rest of them and tough it out.

My project over the last couple of days: my very first scratch built stand for my 75 gal. I like the way it's coming along.
It has enough room for the wet/dry and Fluval 305. I built a little shelf to raise the wet/dry and 305 off the ground to help them flow better and to allow room for the power strip, timers, etc.
I'll add the panels, doors and back brace tomorrow. I have to finish the plumbing for it today, including a home brew overflow.
