  • Gars in Houston Bayous???

I was walking along Greens Bayou today and saw some fish with long noses that looked a lot like Gars. The biggest ones that I saw were about 12-16 inches but I saw some half the size.

Are there Gars in Houston's waters? Do they have teeth like the Alligator Gars?? Are they mean? Anyone have experience keeping them?

    They were really pretty

    kinda like this:

You would be shocked by what you see in the bayous in the middle of Houston. That thing is filled with Grass carp, Pleco's that seem to be of at least 3 different species, Oscars, Pink Gouramis, sail fin mollies, wild green mollies that are kinda salt and pepper colored, Gambusia, snapping turtles, soft shelled turtles, musk turtles, Red year sliders, Yellow Bellied turtles.......

    anyway, I want a gar :( lol

Yeah poke around in those bayous long enough and you may just find a few bodies.

The ones in the pic are Spotted Gar. City Pets occasionally has them for sale. I had a couple before. They were very nice.
