  • 150 gallon tank - I need overhaul ideas

I am recently divorced. I had to put this hobby on hold for a bit, but I did manage to hang onto all of my tanks.

I have a 150 which currently has a variety of cichlids and some other fish in it.

I am looking for something new a different to get me more active in the hobby. I would really like to find something that is relatively easy to breed but not boring.

    Here are my tanks specs.

    150 tall with canopy
    T-5 lighting
    black gravel
    Eheim 2217
    Eheim ECO pro
    Wet / Dry
    heaters, etc...

    Let's here some ideas.
    Jarrod - Houston, Texas
150 gallon - my African cichlid monster tank (I know it isn't a big as yours)
17 gallon - Threadfin rainbows and corys lightly planted
5 gallon - planted red cherry shrimp breeder
3 gallon - planted red cherry shrimp breeder

Well....you know what us Troph and Petro heads are going to suggest . ...................TROPHEUS and/or PETROS !!!

    If I remember correctly your tank is a 4ft. 150 gallon.....right ? If so , you'll probably do better with Trophs .

You want to recommend something specific? Also, aren't the trophs prone to bloat and other issues? I don't need a high maintenance fish. I am looking for something of moderate difficulty.

You could get some severums and Uaru, super fun fish, I have both right now, they are by far ky favorite fish in the tank.

          They get large, 8-10".
But require nothing special to thrive.

Mine eat nls jumbo formula, frozen bloodworms, freeze fried kill, and table shrimp.
They get a 90% wc every Saturday and that's it.

          I have 2x fluval 405s for filtration.

My thoughts are either an Oscar tank with a big pleco or an Angelfish dominated planted community tank, maybe with some schools of the larger tetras. Either way you are still doing cichilds, but you spice it up with the Latin American variety.
While I'm not reef ready, I am salt ernate lifestyle curious...

Tater ToT has a good idea. Uaru's are such a cool fish when they get big. Red Severums and some clown loaches added to it.

After that have to vote for frontosa's.
