  • Need big tank advice....

Ok, I'm going to have the 375 gal tank (8'x30"x30") from here

to the other side of the room

I plan to have it put in the corner, then do cabinetry above and below it so it looks built into the wall.

Here's what I need your thoughts on- Should I leave enough room behind the tank so I can go back there, or do you guys think it would be ok to put it as close as possible to the wall (which I think would look better). The two filters are plumbed through the bottom of the tank, and I figured I could run an extension cord to the top to power lights/powerheads, so I'm thinking I can get it just a couple of inches from the wall, but I wanted to get thoughts from those of you who have done this, and see if there's any advice either way. I figured I'd put some sort of barrier up top, to prevent things (fish!) from getting to where they can't be retrieved.

    Sorry I haven't been around in a while... I hope everyone's doing well!! :)

I would leave at least 4 inches. Once a tank of this size is set, it is a major pain to pull it away. I would also leave a way to access the floor behind the tank in case something falls. I don't know if the lower cabinet has a backing or not from this picture. You might also consider painting or decaling the back of the tank to hide whatever is behind it while you have it empty.

    Looks nice.

I know it's not a good picture (cell phone/glare) but the back and sides of the tank are painted black. That's another thing I'm debating before it's moved- to leave it black, or paint it the same blue as the room (I just painted it blue, it was tan before).

My thinking with the spacing between the tank and the wall is that if there's very little space, nothing should end up there (lol, I know- nice in theory). Since the bathroom that's on the other side of the wall is on the list to get redone aslo, I was thinking of plumbing the tank so I can drain/fill it directly from underneath (I saw an ADG tank video where they did this- looked super nice).
