  • What would YOU do?!

    Hey all!

You all rock so I wanted to get your opinions. Was thinking of getting a 20 gallon long to put on my Ikea dresser, which is about 56" long and 18" wide (approximately). My bed faces that area, so it'd be awesome to have a really sweet tank there... small, but bada$$.

    Ideas??

I was thinking of maybe 2 female apistos and a male apisto, along with a small school of rummy noses and/or cardinals, or maybe even black phantoms... maybe some kuhli loaches or smaller corys... and some albino BN plecos, since they stay pretty small and can also fend for themselves well.

What do you think? And please don't suggest using it to raise various cichlid fry... it'll be years before my darling baby Mobas will have babies of their own!

My bed is facing this so I know what you mean.

    Lol.

But seriously, I say so with some smaller oddball fish.

      LOL! You're a fiend.

Smaller oddball fish... I think of apistos, rams (kinda sorta), shellies (but I'd want at least a 40 long for those). Anything else you had in mind?

It's really up to you. You could go with a community tank like I was going to originally(ask me why that failed... Lol).

What do you like? I prefer stranger fish personally.

Oh no... I'm afraid to ask what happened to your community fish!! If I were going to have community fish I'd probably do a much larger tank, so I could do something new and cool with it.

I like fish that have cool behaviors. That's why I was thinking of apistos.

Let's just say I left one weekend with a tank full of tetras and mollies and came home to a very happy bichir. Lol. My mom is crazy some times...

            Cool behavior fish...

            In what sense?

I think my knifefish are cool. Their movements and manner is entertaining.

I also like my Bala sharks. They are huge and beautiful. Plus extremely fast!

LOL yeah bichirs can be crazy. Knifefish are cool to watch. I never thought about keeping one but I'll do some reading on it. Bala sharks-- totally a no-go for a tiny 20 gallon. :P But I do like them a lot for bigger tanks.

By cool behaviors, I mean when a male displays to a female, or a female guards her fry and "herds" them to food, like apistos do... their stop-start swimming patterns... or shellies that go in and out of their shells... or cichlids that dig and form cool sand dunes... like that. Shrimp, corys, and kuhlis are cool too cuz they're just so curious about everything.

I lovelovelove angels! That's why I wouldn't put 'em in my 20 gallon long... I'd have to get rid of them in a few months cuz they'd be too big. :(

For sure this gonna be a most mind-blowing setup that anyone wants to have in their bed room. If you are thinking of budget then.. Lets copy the style and do it with 1gal a Dollar setup.

You can imitate this by Finding a Driftwood and a grouper fish with a bag of Pool filter sand and a good light. this is just an encouragement. look down and imagine your room..

Angels in a 20 long is a stretch. I think some apistos will too. While either species can exist in a 20 the tranquility goes out the window when they start breeding and their territory takes up the entire tank.

If you want interesting behaviors and beautiful fish I'd suggest gobies. Rhinogobius zhoui is a beautiful and fascinating fish.

Girlgeek has desert gobies that are a blast to watch. I have a good internet friend in NY who has dedicated a 90g tank to several goby species. This is his tank: http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums...rom-the-new-90

Peac ock gudgeons are another small, beautiful fish will interesting behavior.

When you research your fish, take a look at their breeding behavior. Often they will get really nasty at breeding time. Cichlids can be especially bad about this.

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.
